Protests continue against proposed federal set-up

SURKHET, AUG 12 – At least 12 people were injured on Tuesday when police opened fire at the protesters who descended on the streets, for the second consecutive day, demanding that the districts in the mid-western region should not be divided while adopting federal setup.

One Bal Bahadur Mahatara of Latikoili sustained bullet injuries in police firing at Mangalgadhichok. Security personnel had lobbed teargas canisters and later opened fire at protesters who were hurling stones.

The Saturday’s agreement among the four major parties to federate the country into six provinces has angered many people in Surkhet and elsewhere in the country.
