In 2008, Namrata debuted her movie career from Alok Nembang's Sano Sansar where she played the lead role of Reetu. After Sano Sansar's Nepal release raised her profile, she was cast for Mero Euta Saathi Cha which was produced by Sudarshan Thapa and made a huge hit in 2009.
She appeared in two movies in 2010 First Love in a cameo.
She also debuted in her first theater called Jalpari which is based on the play of Lady From the Sea.
In 2011, she acted as the lead role of Carol in the theater of Oleanna. Under Darpan Production's movie Miss U, she played alongside Dilip Rayamajhi & Varun SJB Rana.Except for playing in the movies, she also works at her own restaurant called Attic in Lazimpat, Kathmandu.
In February 2013, she appeared in much awaited Nepali movie Chhadke alongside Saugat Malla, Arpan Thapa, Daya Hang Rai, Robin Tamang, Beepin Karki and Sunil Pokhrel. Chhadke, directed by debutant Nigam Shrestha, got mixed to negative reviews. However, movie was commercially successful. Namrata played a character 'Soli', an aggressive young woman involved in a local gang.
On September 27, 2013 ‘Maun’ was released. ‘Maun’ is a story of deaf and mute characters – Aman, played by Arpan Thapa, and Barsha, played by Namrata Shrestha. The story of love between hearing impaired Aman and Barsha is interesting as the story unfolds of Aman’s dark past. While Aman engulf’s himself smoking, Barsha is a free-spirited girl who is believes in achieving something meaningful in her life despite her disability. For the preparation of this movie, Namrata had training in sign language. The debut movie of Suraj Bhushal had created buzz in movie loving communities because of the story and the cast.
In 2014, the onscreen couple Namrata and Aaryan Sigdel were casted for the blockbuster film November Rain (2014 film)
