Constable DevBahadur Pandey loses his life in Bardiya clash
Police head constable Dev Bahadur Pandey has died in a clash with Tharu protestors here in Mainapakhar of the district on Friday. A group of Tharuhat protesters attacked the Mainpakhar-based Area Police Office this morning. Head constable Pandey had sustained injuries during the attack.
According to Chief District Officer Binod Bahadur Kunwar, Pandey breathed his last at Nepal Medicale College during the treatment. Police presumed that Pandey, who died during treatment, might have sustained injuries in a firing opened by the protesters. "A clash ensued as police tried to stop the protestors who attempted to vandalize two buses," said, Bheri Zonal office Police chief Dhiru Basnyat, adding, "We fired shots in air and fired teargas shells to disperse the protestors.
Pandey sustained injuries during the incident. We presumed that he might have received bullets. An investigation is underway to find truth." Earlier today, police had opened fire in the air as a group of Tharuhat protesters who attacked the Mainapakhar-based Area Police Office. According to CDO Kunwar, a clash ensued between police and protestors outside the police office as protestors attempted to enter into the office building. According to an eyewitness, two demonstrators have sustained bullet injuries in the incident. They have been ferried to Nepalgunj for the treatment.
